How a Weekend Project Turned Into MockRounds.com

I’ve always been fascinated by quizzes. They have a unique way of grabbing your attention — far more than static content ever could. When you’re answering questions, you’re not just reading; you’re actively thinking, recalling, and engaging with the material.

One thing I noticed early on is that trust in a site grows when users start taking quizzes. There’s a sense of interaction, almost like a conversation, that makes the experience feel more personal.

But here’s the problem: when I looked into embedding quizzes on my own site, most platforms were super expensive. On top of that, I couldn’t find a place where developers or students could take quizzes to genuinely upskill — not just random trivia, but content that could help them in interviews, exams, or skill-building.

So, I decided to build it myself.

It started as a weekend project and quickly turned into a full-fledged product. Under the hood, MockRounds.com runs on WordPress for the front-end, with NodeJS and PostgreSQL powering the backend. The focus was clear — make creating quizzes as simple as possible, whether from scratch or by pulling content from any topic or URL.

Over time, we pushed things further. Text-based quizzes were great, but I wanted something more dynamic, so we expanded into Video Quizzes — making the learning process even more engaging.

Today, MockRounds.com isn’t just another quiz site; it’s a platform for learning through interaction, for developers, students, and anyone looking to grow their skills in a more engaging way.
