TinyClimbs Play & Learn is out on iPhone, iPad and Android

November 2, 20262 min read

TinyClimbs Play & Learn is now on the App Store and Google Play. It's a separate app from the TinyClimbs printables app, for children aged 3 to 12, and it's the screen twin of the website: every worksheet generator on tinyclimbs.com that works by touch is in it as a game.

What it does

Mazes, word searches, sudoku, crosswords, telling time, counting coins, times tables, fractions, sight words, rhymes, spelling, and tracing letters, numbers and the child's own name. Each game has four levels, so the same app works from preschool to fifth grade, and every round is freshly generated, so it doesn't run out.

There is no catalogue to scroll. A parent sets the app up once: the child's first name, age group, and what to work on (numbers, words, puzzles, time and money, tracing, or a mix). After that the child opens the app and one game is waiting, picked for their age and that focus. They play it or skip it and the next one is ready. Games they find hard come back later; games they skipped get a rest.

Parents can set a treat, an ice cream or a trip to the park, and the app counts points towards it and tells the child when it's earned. There's an optional weekly leaderboard where children play under a nickname the app makes up, and if you sign in, a short weekly note on what went well and what to practise next.

What it doesn't do

No ads, no analytics, no in-app purchases, no videos, and no links a child can tap. The child's name and progress stay on the device. The only account is the parent's, and it's optional. Parent screens sit behind an "ask a parent" question.

The puzzles use the same generator as the website, so a maze on screen can also be the maze on paper. Every game is still a free printable worksheet at tinyclimbs.com.

Where to get it

If your child gets stuck on a game, or breezes through one that should be harder, we'd like to hear about it.
